Before we buy Huawei switch we must understand the logic behind the LI,SI,EI,HI etc . Because based on their product tag the switch has features.

  • LI: lightweight version
  • SI: standard version
  • EI: enhanced version
  • HI: high-level version, which supports high-performance operation, administration, and maintenance (OAM) and built-in real-time clock (RTC)

As the name implies that LI is for Layer 2 and SI is Layer 2 and basic L3 features and EI is for enterprise Layer 3. HI is enhanced layer 3.

There are many differences between these models tag such as how many routes it can store in the routing table and some other features like mpls vpnv4 support ,higher level quality of service etc ..So this is very important you need to understand when you are buying the switches, normally the Hi series switches are used in Data centers and li and ei are used in campus and ISP networks.

As you can see above image (Courtesy: Huawei Forum), The features are based on their types of tag .so
